Help with Arduino noob

Hi ladies and gents

I require some assistance. I have a fair bit of soldering experience (have built tons of circuits) but virtually no programming experience. I am currently busy with a project that needs to simply count triggers from a NO reed switch and display trigger count and trigger rate per minute on a small LCD. The mechanical device is already built, i just need to rig it up with a counter. I already tested it with a reed switch and magnets and it does function correctly. It doesn’t need to be pretty, just function. I have two issues to solve:

  1. Does anyone know what hardware would be best to use? I’m guessing an Arduino uno? What lcd should i get? It only needs to display at most 10 characters, 5 digits for count total, one space, and 4 digits for count rate.

  2. Can anyone assist with the code, or guide me in the right direction?

Many thanks in advance for any help!
