how to move turntable arm with a servo?

I'm not sure if this is the ideal subreddit for my question but I didn't know where else to ask it. I had the idea of controlling the arm of my turntable via an esp32-controller-servo (I know this is an Arduino subreddit but its just about the hardware here). However I hadn't quite thought the whole process through because I thought that I could just connect the two and then whenever the servo moves to a certain position the turntable arm is moved accordingly, but I forgot that the arm had to also move by itself when actually playing the song. So now I don't really know how to achieve my initial goal. And since this is my first microcontroller-project I don't have a clue about like mechanical stuff. Does anybody have an idea as to how I could do this? And if you might know a better fitting subreddit to post this to that would also be appreciated. This was the initial idea: But like this the arm is always fixed to the servo can't move on its own.

My initial idea
